Best Cake Frosting

If you haven’t already read it you should check out the post for my Candy covered drip cake.  This is one of my favorite frosting recipes – I even used it on all 3 of my wedding cakes.  It does contain shortening which I normally try to avoid, but this also gives it a little more staying power which helps when you have a cake that needs to sit out all day or has to make a long journey.

Best Butter Cream Cake Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 eggwhites
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer cream butter and shortening.
  2. Add eggwhites
  3. Add extracts
  4. Slowly add powdered sugar
  5. Color as desired

You can also use egg whites from the carton as they are already pasteurized.
